The city of Turin has always been involved in a process of radical urban and social innovation .
Through Torino City Lab, the city’s open-air innovation laboratory, the Municipality has involved in the last four years a partnership of over 100 actors public and private , local and international, which have promoted and made the city innovation ecosystem grow. Numerous technological experiments tested in real conditions on the territory that mainly cover four sectors: autonomous car, drones, 5G and robotics.
The scope of innovation of the Municipality of Turin also extends to social and inclusive innovation , through Torino Social Impact, an alliance of public and private companies and institutions that want to make Turin one of the best places to do business and finance; and innovation in the European context , through the numerous European projects implemented in the area.
The ultimate goal is always to decline innovation so that citizens benefit first and foremost.
MISSION
The widespread mission of the City of Turin in the field of innovation is to give support to all the initiatives of the territory that allow a technological and / or social development of the city, in order to make it a more usable, accessible and welcoming place for the citizen.
The current mission of the City of Turin in the context of technological innovation is to create a widespread technology transfer center on emerging technologies enabled by 5G (IoT, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain).

The Municipality of Turin offers support to businesses (start-up and PMI) in order to:
- raise awareness of urban challenges and better define the scenarios of use of public interest for innovative solutions enabled by 5G and emerging technologies
- carry out experimentation activities in real conditions by making available assets, data, contacts with the competent Departments and with the extended partnership of Torino City Lab
- provide financial support to partially cover testing costs through the launch of dedicated “Public Notices” (the so-called “Call4Testing”)
- favor the creation of a generative environment, promoting other opportunities and synergies, even with large companies and other local subjects, with a view to “Open Innovation “
- favor contact with citizens and various interest groups
- disseminating the results within networks of interest at national and international level.
The Municipality of Turin also promotes communication and dissemination activities towards citizens, in close coordination with the MISE, in order to talk about the advantages of emerging technologies for the quality of life in our cities.
Finally, will deal with other cities and public administrations to spread the model of the “House of Emerging Technologies” at local, national and international level, discussing its ability to favor business attraction and development.

The City of Turin has made itself promoter of the candidacy for the realization of the House of Emerging Technologies in close collaboration with the Turin universities and other strategic partners.
The goal is to create a “widespread home” of 5G technology transfer and emerging technologies , promote the development and testing of innovative urban services and define a scalable CTE model for the benefit of the citizens of today and tomorrow.
